Great Mental Health Day aims to get us talking about mental health and sharing what we do to keep well and support those around us.
Local residents are able to access local support services via the Hackney Council website.
London’s digital wellbeing service, Good Thinking offers free, anonymous digital mental health and wellbeing support and is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Good Thinking’s resources are NHS-approved and cover a range of common mental health conditions, including stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep problems and bereavement.
Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest is here for anyone struggling with their mental health or supporting someone who is. You can refer yourself to local NHS talking therapies. For free, urgent, support from mental health professionals, call your local NHS urgent mental health helpline.
You can call the Samaritans day or night on 116 123. You can talk to someone if you are feeling low or are concerned about someone else.
Shout offers confidential 24/7 crisis text support for times when you need immediate assistance. Text “SHOUT” to 85258.
It is provided by national mental health charity, Chasing the Stigma, and brings local, national, peer, community, charity, private and NHS mental health support and services together in one place for the first time.

About the event: A swim meet-up and reciprocal childcare exchange for mums with babies aged 0-2, hosted by one of the amazing Mamma Swim host volunteers.
It is an outdoor swim in a heated lido that meets outside on the pool desk with no indoor space. Please visit the mamma swim website or see below to find out about other indoor swim events.
How to book: You’ll need to book a swim-for-all session on the Better app (found under the ‘Swimming’ section, which also contains the ‘Swim for Fitness’ option). Please book for yourself and your baby even thought they will not be swimming. This helps to keep track of numbers in the venue. There is no additional fee to swim with Mamma Swim. On the day just turn up and meet the group at 10am poolside.

The West Reservoir kindly give use of a seminar room where mums can chat and babies can play. This is an adult-only outdoor swim venue in a deep water reservoir. Please ensure you are prepared and have received a winter swim induction from the West Reservoir staff, offered at the reception desk, before your first swim. If you are nervous about swimming in the reservoir you can ask the host to be paired up with a veteran so you are not alone. How to book: You’ll need to book a swim session on the Better app. Please book a time slot as close to 10am as possible on the app. Swim entry costs £12.30 but there is no additional cost for Mamma Swim. On the day check in at the reception desk and meet the Mamma Swim group in the seminar room.

The magic comes from the peer delivery – trained parents deliver the groups, reducing stigma and connecting communities. Parent group leaders are supervised and supported by parenting specialists. Parents in groups learn the skills to listen, communicate and interact more effectively with their children, nurture closer parent-child relationships, accept and manage feelings, promote positive development manage difficult and challenging behaviour as well as look after their own wellbeing and health.
