Free training: Trauma-informed approaches for those working with members of the Hong Kong community in London

The Greater London Authority’s Hong Kong Integration Programme, supported by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Hong Kong UK Welcome Programme, is in its second year.
Following insights gathered from community partners and the wider system, it is clear that young Hongkongers arriving to London are particularly affected by trauma and mental distress.
There is therefore a need to develop a workforce that has an appreciation and understanding of the impact of trauma on the young Hong Kong community (and those that support them) and are able to provide support and care in a way that is trauma-informed and culturally competent.
Thrive LDN is working with Wave Trust, who have over 25 year’ experience of working in the field of trauma and has delivered a number of large scale training projects across the UK, to support a series of free trauma-informed training sessions.
Aidan Philips, Wave Trust trainer, will deliver a series of free trauma-informed training workshops for staff which will cover the essentials of what trauma is and how it affects us, as well as practical tips on how you can put this knowledge to effect in a range of settings.
In this tailor-made course produced in collaboration with Hong Kong Well UK, you will discuss experiences of trauma, resilience and the use of trauma-informed approaches in the context of those working with members of the Hong Kong community in London.

As part of the Greater London Authority’s Hong Kong Integration Programme supported by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Hong Kong UK Welcome Programme, Thrive LDN was commissioned to undertake a programme of work to support the mental health needs of Hong Kong arrivals in London (delivered between January – July 2022).
Through the success of this initial programme, Thrive LDN has been funded for a second year to deliver a programme of support between June – September 2023.
