This World Book Day, join Thrive LDN for two book readings which support the wellbeing of young children.

To mark World Book Day 2021, we partnered with Thrive Edinburgh to bring to life two stories, Chicken Legs’ Arroyo by Jenny Lucas and Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival.

The two stories are designed to support young children (aged 3 – 7 years old) and parents discuss childhood worries and anxieties, no matter how big or small they may be.

You can still watch these two readings by clicking on the lnk above. Read more to find out more about the two books and their authors.

About Chicken Legs’ Arroyo

Written and illustrated by Jenny Lucas

Chicken Legs’ Arroyo is a charming story of bravery, perseverance and the power of friendship during challenging times, to be enjoyed by the whole family.

It is written by lawyer-turned-illustrator, Jenny Lucas, inspired by and in memory of her close friends’ daughter Maisie, who died in September 2020 from a very rare form of childhood cancer.

Sales of the book have already raised more than £5,000 for Scottish children’s cancer charity, LoveOliver, which has supported Maisie’s family during their hardest times. Jenny was recently given a Points of Light award with a letter from the Prime Minster, commending the book and money raised.

About Ruby’s Worry

Written and illustrated by Tom Percival

Ruby loves being Ruby. Until, one day, she finds a worry. At first, it’s not such a big worry, and that’s all right, but then it starts to grow.

It gets bigger and bigger every day and it makes Ruby sad. How can Ruby get rid of it and feel like herself again?

Ruby’s Worry is a perceptive and poignant story that is a must-have for all children’s bookshelves. From Tom Percival’s bestselling Big Bright Feelings series, this is the perfect book for discussing childhood worries and anxieties, no matter how big or small they may be.
