Free training opportunities providing support for Hong Kongers in London

 

The Greater London Authority’s Hong Kong Integration Programme has funded two upcoming training offers to provide support for Hong Kongers in London.

The training is free and further details including how to sign up can be found below.

1) Free suicide prevention training for UK-Hong Kong Organisations

 

These workshops are specifically designed for members from UK-HK organisations and will be co-delivered by PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide and Hearth Talk in English, with Cantonese translations for some contents. Please sign up online via Papyrus’ website.

*Please be aware that session 1, SP-OT is mandatory to be completed before you enrol for session 2, SP-EAK.

 

Session 1: SP-OT Suicide Prevention – Overview Tutorial. What EVERYONE needs to know.

The key objectives are

+ To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide, particularly in the HK community
+ To consider the attitudes, myths and stigma around suicide
+ To explore the challenges when talking openly about suicide
+ To recognise the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide

Session 1 dates & times:

+ Wednesday 8th November: 5:15pm-6:45pm (For UK-HK organisations ONLY)
+ Wednesday 22nd November: 5:15pm – 6:45pm (Open to all Hong Kongers)

Session 2: SP-EAK Suicide Prevention – Explore, Ask, Keep-Safe. An introduction to Suicide Prevention skills*

The key objectives are

+ To recognise and explore the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide
+ To identify how these signs may present in someone from the HK community and how we can open up a sensitive conversation with them
+ To understand how to be an effective listener and adopt a helpful attitude when responding to someone who’s thinking about suicide
+ To know how to ask the question about suicide and have a dialogue about keeping the person with thoughts of suicide safe

Session 2 dates & times:

+ Monday 13th November: 9:30am – 11am
+ Saturday 2nd December: 10am – 11:30am

SP-EAK Suicide Prevention Training

+ Wednesday 15th November: 1pm – 4:30pm (for local organisations)
+ Thursday 23rd November: 1pm – 4:30pm (for local organisations)
+ Wednesday 29th November: 1pm – 4:30pm (for local organisations)
+ Thursday 7th December : 1pm – 4:30pm (for local organisations)

 

2) Free online trauma-informed practice training available for professionals who are supporting young Hong Kongers in London

 

The WAVE Trust are delivering trauma-informed schools training in collaboration with Hong Kong Well UK which will cover:

+ the essentials of what trauma is
+ how trauma affects us
+ practical tips on how you can put this knowledge to effect in educational settings.

These are offered as a 4-hour online session which is open to professionals from across education, health and care and other support services who work with young Hong Kongers across London. This training is offered on a first come, first serve basis.
