About the project
Thrive LDN is working with Voluntary Arts to produce and deliver three media interventions for the Up for Arts project on creative wellbeing and mental health – produced in alliance with BBC Radio London. As part of this programme, we are recruiting and training a group of young Londoners, aged 18 – 25, to work on producing a 30 minute documentary and a series of podcasts exploring themes around life in London and the positive impact that participation, in things such as live music or community volunteering, can have on mental health and wellbeing.
In addition, the young Londoners will also act as content creators for Thrive LDN’s World Mental Health Day festival at City Hall on 10th October.
Context
The Thrive LDN Culture initiative follows recommendations from an independent report conducted in 2018 which identified opportunities for arts and cultural activities to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Londoners. The report, carried out by Nikki Crane Associates, concluded that whilst arts and culture in London has great potential to support wellbeing, tackle inequalities and engage people from all backgrounds, there remains a disparity of access to arts and culture across London with a lack of joined up activity in this area. Moreover, individuals aren’t aware of the many wellbeing benefits of being involved in creative cultural activity or the type/range of opportunities available to them.
